Indian Kites in the Łącznik Building

April 29, 2025

Colorful, handcrafted kites from India have appeared in the “Łącznik” building at Opole University of Technology, marking the first attraction of the second edition of International Day, which will take place on May 8th, 2025 (Wednesday), at 10:00 AM.

This special event, organized by the International Relations Office, aims to promote multiculturalism and foster integration within the academic community. This year, we started the celebration a bit earlier – the installation of traditional Indian kites in the main connecting corridor is a vibrant preview of what’s to come in May.

Did you know? The culture of kites in India

In India, kites are much more than just decorations – they are a significant cultural and spiritual symbol. The most famous time of the year for kite flying is the Makar Sankranti festival in January. In the state of Gujarat, it includes the International Kite Festival, where participants from around the world compete to cut each other’s kite strings using a special glass-coated thread called manjha.

Kites in Indian culture symbolize freedom, joy, and hope, and their presence in the Łącznik building is a reminder of the beauty and richness of cultural traditions.

Join us on May 8th!

We warmly invite all students, staff, and friends of Opole University of Technology to take part in International Day 2025, which will be held on May 8th at 10:00 AM.

Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the world without leaving the university!
