The second edition of the International Day at Opole University of Technology took place with great energy and vibrancy, reflecting the cultural diversity that has developed at the university thanks to the presence of students and staff from various corners of the world. The event, which attracted many students and employees, aimed to promote international cooperation, integration, and openness to diversity.
One of the highlights of the program was an inspiring talk by Paweł Szpala, traveler and author of the blog “Człowiek Przygoda” (“Adventure Man”). During his presentation, he spoke about the extraordinary places he has visited – from majestic glaciers to exotic Jordan – but also emphasized the charm of closer, more accessible travel destinations. He encouraged students to explore the world on their own terms, offering ideas for weekend getaways and regional trips in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany. His presentation was not just a travelogue but a true inspiration to seek adventures just around the corner – regardless of budget or available time.
Another highlight was the engaging lecture by Joanna Sikorska, who took the audience on an exciting journey not only through distant places but also across the boundaries of courage and determination. Her stories about traveling to remote regions and meeting people from different cultures served as both fascinating insights and motivational fuel for stepping out of one’s comfort zone.
The stage also welcomed several remarkable international guests. Ryann James, a student from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering originally from Zimbabwe, shared her colorful experience of studying in Poland, the cultural differences she encountered, and how she found her place in the Opole academic community. The audience was also captivated by Rainny Araque González – a dance instructor and Spanish language teacher born in Venezuela, who spent many years living in Colombia. His energetic presentation about Latin American culture was one of the liveliest moments of the day. The academic side was represented by Professor Rajesh Jesudoss Hynes Navasingh, originally from India, who offered his perspective on diversity and working in an international academic environment, sharing his story and reflections on research, education, and integration in Poland.
The event featured numerous accompanying attractions. Language booths offered visitors a chance to learn the basics of French and Ukrainian, as well as Turkish, presented by Erasmus+ students through games, fun facts, and cultural activities.
There was also an Erasmus+ information stand, where students could learn how to take advantage of opportunities to study or intern abroad. The Academic Career Office was present as well, offering special internship and traineeship offers for international students, along with one-on-one career counseling in English.
Also present at the event were OUTech Mentors, who actively encouraged both Polish and international students to join their organization and help build a welcoming, international academic community.
