The Opole University of Technology has begun the implementation of another international initiative under the Erasmus+ KA2 Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education programme.
The project, titled GreenCamUz – Green Campus Initiative: Integrating Sustainability into Higher Education in Uzbekistan, aims to integrate the principles of sustainable development into university curricula in Uzbekistan. This will be achieved through the use of modern teaching strategies and the exchange of experience with European partners.
The initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the European Union’s commitments to environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable education.
A total of twelve institutions from Uzbekistan, Poland, Lithuania, and Türkiye are involved in the project. The coordinator of the initiative is Kokand University (Uzbekistan), while among the partners—alongside the Opole University of Technology—are Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania) and Karabuk University (Türkiye).
With its long-standing expertise in sustainable engineering and energy efficiency, the Opole University of Technology will play a key expert role in the project. The university will share its know-how in implementing green technologies, including renewable energy systems, smart campus infrastructure, waste management and recycling, and sustainable mobility solutions.
The responsibilities of the Opole University of Technology will also include the development and delivery of practical workshops for representatives of Uzbek universities. These workshops will cover topics such as eco-driving, efficient energy management, and the integration of environmental initiatives into the daily operations of academic institutions.
As part of the collaboration, a delegation from partner universities in Uzbekistan will visit Opole, where participants will take part in workshops, study visits, and meetings focused on the exchange of good practices in the field of green campuses and environmental education.
The project foresees the development of green campus strategies for six universities, the creation and implementation of twelve new or updated courses on sustainable development, and the training of more than seventy representatives of academic and administrative staff from Uzbekistan.
Additional outcomes will include pilot projects, a network of 120 Green Campus Ambassadors, and a virtual knowledge exchange platform, enabling cooperation between universities and local communities.
Through the involvement of the Opole University of Technology, the GreenCamUz project will contribute not only to promoting environmentally friendly practices in Uzbekistan’s higher education sector but also to strengthening international cooperation in the field of sustainable development.
The joint efforts of all partners aim to inspire new generations of students and academics to think responsibly about the environment and to help build greener campuses and communities.
